On 9 March 2001, new legislation was enacted called the Promotion of Access to information Act of 2000. The purpose of this legislation is to address section 32(2) of the Constitution, which provides that any person has a right to gain access to any information held by a company, if such information is required for the exercise or protection of a right.
One of the main requirements specified in the Act is the compilation of a manual that provides information on both the types and categories of records held by the company.
The JCL Enterprises cc manual in terms of Section 51 is available for inspection at it’s offices, and copies are available with the SAHRC and in the Gazette.
Request forms for access to information, and the fee structure are available on the SAHRC web site.
